Artist Playhouse
Summer Camp

A Summer camp to inspire, enrich, and artistically engage kids ages 4-11 in the performing arts in Chicago’s Humboldt Park and West Rogers Park neighborhoods.

About Artist Playhouse Summer Camp

Artist Playhouse Summer Camp is all about having fun while inspiring young artists to create and enjoy their summer break!

Campers will spend each week making friends while learning to play a musical instrument such as the ukulele, forming a rock band with their camp group, drawing, painting, crafting, dancing, and deriving theater scenes for an on stage performance that they will put on for their family and friends every Friday at 4pm. Campers will spend each day in music, dance, theater, and visual arts classes, learning from nurturing and experience teaching artists. Campers will have a place to voice their creative visions and ideas in an encouraging, safe, and inspirational camp environment.

Campers Perform on Stage Every Friday!

Each Friday at 4:00pm there will be a performance for family and friends. This performance is designed to be friendly to a new performer as it is in a casual, low stakes, environment. Our goal is for campers to build confidence for the stage and have a positive performance experience! Campers create their performance piece together and this ownership over their work allows for the stage experience to be exciting and fun. Also, if a camper does not want to perform, they don’t have to- there are a lot of non-stage roles in the world of performing arts!

Bring Your Own, Nut Free, Lunch + Snack

Campers bring their own lunch and 2 snacks for morning and afternoon. We are 100% nut free. Please do not pack nuts in your child’s lunch and snack.

Small Groups & Dedicated Teachers

Campers are split into small groups of no more than 10 campers to ensure camp is a safe environment and to provide individualized attention to be able to go home at the end of the week with new skills and tools to create on their own.

Camp will be taught by teaching artists with degrees in their field who value creating and teaching equally—cherishing the opportunity to simultaneously practice their craft as teachers as well as professional performers and creators.

Campers will:

  • HAVE FUN- we put fun first in everything we do each day!

  • LEARN AND EXPLORE foundational music, dance, art, and theater skills. Campers will learn how to dance, play an instrument, act, make art, and make music in new ways.

  • CONNECT with other campers- Every day will include time for our young artists to socialize, play, and connect with other artists their age.

  • COLLABORATE on artistic ideas- Camp artists will be able to bring their interests to the table!  This is a time for students to delve into their own interests and make this summer about YOU.

  • CREATE and PERFORM art that is performed every Friday at 4:00pm (no pressure to perform- perhaps you want to do the backstage set design, sound, or lights!) Every week there will be a performance, art show, and display of work that our artists accomplished throughout the week collaborating with their peers and camp leaders!
