Three reasons why you should join the Practice Challenge

1. Establish a routine:

“But I don’t feel like practicing…”

Sound familiar? When we don’t establish the expectation that practice happens every day, it allows every day to become a potential day that we don’t have to practice, and every day becomes a fight for that no practice day. Conversely, when we know that every day is a practice day, it becomes just something we do, like brushing our teeth!

The practice challenge gives us the opportunity to establish that routine, with a set goal of 25, 50, or 100 days. By the time the practice challenge is over, however, practice will have become a part of the daily routine, and can continue without the challenge!

2. Join a community of practicing artists:

A great way to commit to a new routine is by telling others you’re doing it! When you loudly set goals for yourself, you create a community of supporters who hold you accountable. In the same way that we sign up for a 10k when we want to run more, the Practice Challenge is an opportunity to join a group of other At-Home-Teachers and students with the goal of practicing daily! It helps turn a sometimes lonely task of practicing into a community activity.

3. Cycle of Success:

When we leave class, everything that we’ve worked on is fresh both mentally and physically! We leave confidently knowing what to work on throughout the week and how to work on it. When we reinforce what we did in class through at-home practice while this material is still fresh, we set ourselves up for success the rest of the week. We continue to build on this knowledge during our daily practice, turning knowledge to skill and ingraining it into our muscle memory. Each day we get more confident, and when we come to class the next week, we are ready to learn more. Which leads us to practice more… which makes us more confident and excited for class… which makes us want to practice more… and so on!

When we find momentum in our practicing and learning, we’re able to start this cycle of success. This cycle can work the other way too, though. When we don’t practice throughout the week, or wait to practice until assignments we worked on in our lessons become fuzzy, it leads to a frustrating practice session, where something that was once easy is now difficult. Which makes us unmotivated, which makes us not want to practice… etc.

By setting the expectation of practicing every day, the practice challenge can help get you and your child started on the cycle of success!

BONUS: And did we mention the medals?! Display that medal or trophy proudly to remind you and your child what hard work looks like!
