Why Audition? Five Life Skills Auditioning Will Prepare you for

What do you think of when you hear the word audition? What often comes to mind is a room full of people with numbers pinned to their clothes waiting nervously to be in the spotlight in front of scary judges. At Music House, it is our goal to empower everyone to feel comfortable auditioning and to give students the valuable experience that auditioning presents. 

Here are 5 REAL life skills that auditioning will prepare you for:

1. Auditioning will teach you how to take ownership of your preparation

Whether you are auditioning for music, dance or theater, know what you need to do to increase your confidence on the day of! Do you need to learn a song prior to auditions? Do you need to arrive dressed a certain way? These are all good questions to ask yourself and sets the tone for how being a performer in a production might be. Auditioning is just the first step, but once you are cast, there is a tremendous amount of preparation work expected outside of rehearsal.

2. Auditioning will encourage you to let go of scary thoughts and be brave! 

Auditioning can be scary! Especially when there are multiple people watching  and analyzing your every move. Believe it or not those people WANT you to do a good job. Teachers running auditions are not looking for perfection, they are looking for students who are willing to be brave and put themselves out there! 

3. Auditioning helps build important life skills

Everyone faces these situations in life- from job interviews, to sports team tryouts, it is important to have experiences like auditioning to help practice for other experiences to come! Music House teachers make auditioning fun and stress free for all students- what better way to build confidence! (speaking of confidence....)

4. Auditioning helps build confidence!

Have you ever done something that you are proud of and felt on top of the world? Like you can do anything? Conquer an audition and we guarantee you will feel this way!

5. Auditioning allows you to challenge yourself, try something new, make new friends, and find your definition of success!

Just outside of your comfort zone is where the magic happens. That is where we learn, grow, adapt and flourish. It may be nerve wracking to sign up for an audition, but remember, you are aiming to do YOUR personal best. Nobody else’s definition of excellence is going to match yours. So go ahead, get out there, sign up for an audition!
