The mission of Music House Dance Company (MHDC) is to provide dancers a community in which they can grow their artistry as performers. Students will be provided with additional performance and learning opportunities. Additional performance opportunities include street festivals such as Do Division and Wicker Park fest, and at dance conventions around the Chicago area. Members of MHDC receive supplemental dance training in styles such as modern, jazz, and contemporary and are encouraged to approach new challenges with a positive mindset. Dancers will build awareness of the importance of ensemble and teamwork as well as be encouraged to flourish as creative individuals.

Some of the best lessons learned are the result of a mistake. Mistakes happen and are an integral part of the learning process and life. When we make mistakes in dance, we can more fully understand our ability to use the mistake to ignite our creative brain!

While technical development and performance quality are very important to a dancer's training, together we will learn about the rich historical context of dance styles! Company dancers will dive deep into the history of dance, understanding its origins, culture, and legends that have revolutionized performance and movement!

Company dancers will play an important role in the creation of dances and the choreographic process, allowing them the opportunity to expand their personal movement vocabulary and work collaboratively with other dancers and with directors.

By joining our dance company, you’ll be a joining a part of something great while creating memories that will last a lifetime. You’ll learn how to build confidence and respect for yourself and others as well as expanding your current dance vocabulary and knowledge!
How do I join the Dance Company?
For Current Music House Studio Dance Students, talk to your teacher to see if Music House Dance Company would be a good next step for you and your dancer!
For students not currently taking dance classes at Music House, we require 2 years of dance experience in any style as well as an evaluation by the MHDC director.
To get involved: Register for a free trial if you have 2 years of experience and the evaluation will occur during your first class. All dancers who wish to join Music House Dance Company must also be enrolled in a dance class.
Meet the Director
Ms. Kathleen Alvarado—Director
Ms. Kathleen has been teaching at Music House Inc. since 2014. She is a native Chicagoan and has danced since she was 6 years old. Ms. Kathleen is trained in Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Contemporary and Hip Hop. As a teenager she volunteered in the YMCA Youth Intervention program where she was given the opportunity to teach youth. Her passion for teaching was sparked through this program; she saw firsthand how her passion for dance can inspire others. She received her BA in Dance from Columbia College where she had the privilege of performing works by Emma Draves, Stephanie Martinez, and Darrell Grand Moultrie. Above all Ms. Kathleen believes that dance has the ability to bring people together no matter where they’re from. Dance can strengthen bonds and build an inclusive diverse community that learns how to communicate and work together. Ms. Kathleen is excited and eager to start this new journey with Music House and cannot wait to see the beautiful community that will come from this dance company.
Pricing
$25 Registration Fee per family
Starting on August 1, 2024, Dance Class equal monthly tuition will increase to the following:
45-50 minute weekly classes: $84/month (previously $84/month - no change)
55-60 minute weekly classes: $90/month (previously $84/month)
75 minute weekly classes: $112/month (new class length)
90 Minute weekly classes: $119/month (previously $108/month)
Additional Dance Classes are 25% off.
